Why This Man Sees a Secret Market Cabal

To many, Charles Biderman might not seem like the sort of person prone to conspiracy theories. Biderman, 63, is a Harvard Business School graduate who runs a popular investment letter and has the ear of some of the biggest names on Wall Street.

But in recent days, Biderman has made something of a splash with many market watchers by suggesting the U.S. government has been covertly manipulating the stock market and artificially fueling the rally.

More specifically, Biderman theorizes that, in addition to publicly disclosed moves such as the Fed’s mortgage-purchase program, the U.S. could also have been secretly making steady purchases of stock futures -- effectively helping prop up equity prices, and presumably encouraging other investors to move cash back into stocks.
